Happy Fathers Day

Well today is Fathers Day the day we celebrate fathers. Being a father is such an awesome experience. It is also an awesome responsibility. God has entrusted me with two precious little souls that are mine to shape and develop. It is up to me to teach them how to be decent, upright young ladies.

It is up to daddy to teach them right from wrong good from evil. It is my responsibility to deliver those precious souls entrusted to me by God, back to God. It is my job to teach them to love the Lord their God with all their hearts minds and souls, and to love their neighbors as themselves. So far I am encouraged because the kids seem to be on track.

The Ice Cream Bribe

Strawberry Ice Cream with StrawberriesImage via WikipediaAs a parent I am always looking for ways to motivate my kids to be on their best behavior. This is easier said then done. It seems Joy and I are always on their case about cleaning their room and putting away their toys. We are always challenged to get them to eat something besides junk food.

So Joy had an idea. If the kids behave all week, If they clean their room and not make the baby sitter pull out all her hair then we will give them a special treat. We will take them out for Ice Cream on Sunday Afternoon.

I'm not sure it will work but what the hey I get Ice Cream too. So will try it for awhile and let you know if it works. But even if it dos not I will try to convince Joy to keep trying because hey I get to eat Ice cream. LOL.

Daddy Play with Me.

Daddy don't blog just play me with today. This is the mantra of my kids every night. They want to play tickle monster and have me chase them around. Usually this culminates with daddy on the bed getting jumped on by two monkeys.

I love to play with the kids but it can get distracting as well. Seems like I have so much to do everyday and very little time to do it in. But I must always remember to take time to spend with my girls. Right now I'm still their hero, their favorite person in the whole world. But they grow up so fast. Leona is now 6 and Angelina is now 4. How many more years will they want to play with daddy? How long will it be until dad is just the old guy who embarrasses me in front of my friends.

So for now I will make time to play with my monkeys. I will make time to do fun things with them. I will seize the moment before it forever slips away. I hope everyone with little ones takes the same attitude.

Being a Dad

A little over 6 years ago my world got turned upside down. I became the proud parent of a bouncing baby girl named Leona. A little over two years latter my second bundle of joy Angelina (Angel) was born. Life became a line from the Charles Dickens Classic a Tale of Two Cities. “It was the best of times it was the worst of times.” Being a father was the most exciting and fulfilling adventure I had ever embarked on. It was also the most challenging and frustrating one as well.

Dirty diapers, bottles, and children crying soon turned our peaceful existence into chaos. Sleep became a thing of the past, a distant memory of days gone by. This was quickly replaced by human alarm clocks screeching, “Get up daddy the sun is up”. Not a great thing to hear on a Saturday morning.

As the children grew a bit older the diapers and bottles dissipated but the challenges have not. God in his infinite wisdom gave my two little primates the power of speech. Now the words “That’s Mine” and “She hit me” permeate the air as we enter the wonderful world of bickering and winning. Oh to hear the T.V. again, thank God for DVR boxes.

With all the challenges and difficulties of being a dad nothing can equal the joy that comes with job. To see little ones run up to you with open arms a scream daddy’s home is one of those things in a Visa Card commercial priceless. Two have children climb all over me and fight to see who can get closes to me brings a feeling that can never be put into words. To see happy smiling faces that love and adore you is what life is all about. Thank God he made me a dad.
