Well Leona finished up her first year of school and will be going on to first grade next September. I'm very proud of her. She did a great job in school this year and she loves it. She finished with a lot of exceeds expectations levels in many of her subjects.
Honestly I'm amazed at what they teach children in kindergarten now days. I think when we were kids we majored in coloring and eating paste. Leona finished kindergarten knowing how to read and write. They hope by the end og kindergarten to have kids look at a picture and write two or three sentences. Leona will write four or five.
When it comes to math again I'm impressed she can count to 100 by ones, two's fives, and tens. She can count backwards from 30 and she can do some basic addition and subtraction. I was told that they are teaching first grade level at kindergarten now.

Cafeteria Food
Prior to the end of the school year for Leona's Kindergarten the school had a bring a guest to lunch day. In order to prepare the students for next year when they will attend school full time the had them bring a quest to help them experience the concept of lunch in the cafeteria. So my wife Joy, my youngest daughter Angelina, and myself had lunch with my eldest daughter Leona.
We got to show her how to go threw a cafeteria line and pay for the meal. And when done with the meal how to trow away the trash and put the tray and silverware in the proper place to be washed. It is amazing how we take such simple things for granted and forget that someone had to teach us such simplistic things.
Needless to say Leona was excited to have us there with her, but Angelina was disappointed to not be able to go back to the class room after lunch. It had been many years since I had school lunch and i hate to say not much has changed in taste.

Leona's Lie
As a parent your always concerned about your children's well being. You will do what ever it takes to protect them from all harm and do what ever it takes to keep them happy and healthy. And Joy and I are no exception to the rule.
Lately my oldest daughter Leona has been suffering a lot from allergy from pollen. Last week we took her to the doctor for a check up. They found some fluid in her lungs along with her other issues. They of course prescribed medications to help eliminate the issue.
Well Tuesday the day after Memorial day Leona started to cry and told her Aunt who watches her during the day that she was in pain and started to hold her side. She told the baby sitter that last week the doctor said their was something wrong with her side according to the doctor.
So of course the baby sitter called in a panic and I left work to bring her to the doctor. As most of you know most companies will not pay you for a holiday if you take out unscheduled time off the day before or after the holiday. But only thinking of Leona and her welfare I rushed out of work.
The only problem was there was nothing wrong with her. I brought her to the doctor as stated to get her checked out only to find out she was lying about being sick. I wanted to strangle her but had to remember she was only six. So of course I did by best to try to explain why lyes are bad. I just hope she got the message. Oh by the way my new manager at work was able to get me paid for the holiday.

Off to the Library
My daughter Leona loves to read and it makes my heart glad. It is amazing to me that after only ½ a year in kindergarten she can already read. I think when I was a kid it we just colored pictures at that age. But she can read and write sentences and even do some basic math. I'm very impressed with the local school system.
One of the motivations I used this week to keep the kids in line was to promise to take them to the library if they behave all week. Their reward is to get to take out two books each. Amazing I get to reward my kids by encouraging them to read.
